Our Backstory

Shafaf Purification Technology was founded in April of 2025, with one true aim: to ensure all people can have low-cost access to clean air and water.

Most people in developed nations take something like that for granted, and I don’t blame them. However, in my nation of Pakistan, only 20% of people have access to clean water which is a statistic that never fails to startle me. Furthermore, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Peshawar is almost 200, and the PM2.5 (fine particulate pollutant) level in the air is 24.9 times the WHO’s guideline value (IQAir, 2025). Because of this, it is recommended that windows are kept shut, masks should be worn outside and outside exercise should be avoided. 

 One night, I was at my desk, homesick and contemplating the current state of Pakistan. I then started thinking about the issue of accessible clean water and air, and upon further research, my heart was broken by the situation. But rather than sit there and be upset about it, I knew that I could do something about it. 

And thus, Shafaf was born.
